The best Christmas Markets 1. Rathausplatz. Just outside the Rathaus (the City Hall) is a huge square with some great markets, perfect for spending hours wandering around for your Christmas and New Year in Vienna. There’s a range of food stalls and stalls selling wooden crafts and other gifts. Definitely try Kartofflepuffen! Vienna’s New Year's Markets (Silvestermarkt or Neujahrsmarkt) are a fantastic way to embrace the festive spirit as the year comes to a close. These markets, held in iconic locations around the city, offer delightful food, drink, and unique gifts. From 16 November till 6 January, the Christmas and New Year's winter market will keep you warm – in combination with hot punch and live acts. It all takes place on the Riesenradplatz square below the famous Ferris Wheel, and admission is free. Vienna’s new year’s eve markets will be active this year by offering a variety of entertaining products. The Markets will be open from December 27 to December 31 in 211 different locations. If you’re wandering through the old town in Vienna, admiring the opera house and preparing to find your way down the Kärntner Straße shopping street, consider taking a moment to pop into the Advent Genussmarkt: a small Christmas and New Year gourmet market. Say "New Year's Eve" and "Vienna" and you also have to say "New Year's Eve Trail". After all, the whole of Vienna city center transforms into one big sparkling party on New Year's Eve, which reaches its zenith at midnight. Vienna’s New Year's Markets (Silvestermarkt or Neujahrsmarkt) are a fantastic way to embrace the festive spirit as the year comes to a close. The Altwiener Market is the oldest Christmas market in Vienna, having originated as early as 1772! This market is held on Freyungplatz, in the shadow of the Schottenkirche church, and is the smallest market in central Vienna. This market does have a large Christmas tree at the far end, and a stage with a set program. New Year’s Eve markets and stalls. If you’re looking for lucky charms, champagne, or festive decorations, Vienna’s New Year’s Eve markets are still open. Here’s where to go: New Year’s Market Schönbrunn Palace: Runs daily until January 6th from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. Floridsdorf market: Open from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. New Year's Eve in Vienna Up to 250,000 visitors are expected to celebrate New year's Eve in central Vienna again this But New Year openings can change from year to year. However, expect at least one or two of those Advent markets to extend into early January. I traditionally recommend the market at Schönbrunn Palace (open until January 6th), thanks to the elegant imperial surrounds and a high standard of arts and crafts. Exhibitions and culture New Year’s Market at Schönbrunn Palace. This elegant market is a must-see for those who can’t get enough of Vienna’s Christmas markets. Running until January 6th, it transitions seamlessly into the New Year’s period, offering handcrafted goods, warming drinks, and more. Opening hours: December 25th–January 6th, 10am–7pm daily Celebrating New Year in Vienna is diverse and colorful, offering you to experience fireworks shows, attend New Year's events, enjoy a great meal with your loved ones, and of course the great New Year’s Eve Trail, popularly known as Silvesterpfad.
