My Uzbek culture is very colorful and has lots of interesting traditional holidays and events. One of them is my favorite holiday called Navruz which means "new day". We celebrate this holiday every year on March 21st. This is one of the favourite holidays for children because this day is the full of activities, nice traditional dishes and fun. Nauruz, the old Zoroastrian new year that ushers in spring, is one of the largest holidays in Kyrgyzstan and being here in Bishkek during Nauruz was really amazing. The traditions of Nauruz are a very special way for Kyrgyz people to celebrate their heritage and practice millennia-old traditions. There are two New Year celebrations in Uzbekistan: one at the end of the Gregorian calendar year, and the other Nowruz, originating from Persia and celebrated on March 21st to mark the arrival of spring. Spring festival of Navruz, the oriental New Year, is directly connected with the coming of spring and is celebrated on 21 March, on the spring (vernal) equinox, when day becomes equal to night and continues to win from it several minutes with every next turn of the Earth, and when the New Solar Year brings a new phase of renewal. New Year in Uzbekistan is one of the most anticipated holidays of the year, for it offers a long-awaited respite from the doldrums of winter. Although celebrated in the region since Soviet times, the scale and magnitude of local New Year festivities seem to increase with every passing year. Sometimes known as Persian New Year, Navruz is a chance to celebrate nature, to welcome a new year, and to enjoy flavorful food with friends, neighbors, and family. The Navruz holiday in Uzbekistan marks the spring equinox and the traditional Persian New Year. Navruz (also called Noruz, Nowruz, Nowrooz, and Nawruz), the spring "New Year" holiday, has been celebrated for at least 2,500 years, and perhaps for as long as 5,000 years. New Year celebrated on January 1, is still the most celebrated and beloved national holiday in Uzbekistan. New Year became celebrated in Soviet times with the presence of all the essential attributes of the holiday. The celebration of Navruz (Central Asian New Year) in Uzbekistan is a vibrant display of cultural traditions and age-old customs. From its ancient Zoroastrian origins to its modern practices and rituals, Navruz remains a beloved festival that unites families, communities, and nations. As midnight approaches on December 31st, people across Uzbekistan gather to welcome the New Year. Many families prefer to stay at home, enjoying a festive meal and exchanging gifts, while others head to public squares to hear the Tashkent chimes and watch fireworks light up the night sky. This year, the «New Uzbekistan University», which meets the highest international standards, was organized in Tashkent.
