My kids are having fun with Korean Lunar New Year crafts and activities, especially the Korean pellet drum, fan, and coloring pages! Korean Lunar New Year, also known as 설날 Seollal, is one of the most important holidays in Korean culture. Traditionally, the holiday is celebrated for 3 days and involves wearing a 한복 hanbok , feasting on delicious food, playing games, and performing a bow called 세배 sebae . Seollal, the Korean New Year, is one of the two most important annual celebrations for Koreans. On this special day, children wear hanbok, traditional Korean clothing, eat special food made for the New Year, pay respect to the elderly and ancestors, play traditional games, and receive pocket money. During this time, many Koreans visit family, perform ancestral rites, wear the hanbok (한복, 韓服), eat Korean food, including Korean cuisine, and play folk games. Additionally, children often receive money called Sebaetdon (New Year’s money) as a Seollal gift in a form of Bokjumeoni (복주머니, lucky bags) from their elders after performing a formal bow.
