Chinese Canadian Museum – the museum in Chinatown has a special storytime event on January 18th, 2025, leading up to Lunar New Year. Last year there were tours, calligraphy demonstrations and lion dancing on the main weekend. The Lunar New Year is celebrated in Vancouver with lion dances, colorful parades, vibrant street fairs, and the Lunar Fest, a massive cultural event. Celebrations start in Vancouver's historic Chinatown with the annual Chinese New Year Parade, which has been held by the Chinese Benevolent Associatio The festival is an inclusive event that celebrates Chinese New Year, Korean New Year, Vietnamese New Year and the Lunar New Year for other cultures too. It’s hosted by the same organization that runs TaiwanFest in September. In 2025, Lunar New Year is on January 29th. Chinese New Year events in downtown Vancouver usually include Lunarfest, Asian-themed films at FlyOver Canada, the Parade in Chinatown, Lunar New Year activities at Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Garden, festivities at Chinatown Plaza and celebrations at the International Village Mall.
